Announcing our student engineer winner
The winner of the student engineer essay competition, selected by Buro Happold is…….
Rachel Ribeiro, a second year undergraduate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College for her essay: Geothermal Pile Foundations.
The judges found her essay well written and engaging and at a level that is detailed and interesting while still being accessible to non-experts. Rachel’s work provides a great explanation of a fascinating subject, and is so comprehensive it's allowed us to start two spin-off articles; Geothermal Energy and Pile Foundations.
Rachel will be offered an internship at Buro Happold in the summer. In the meantime we’re inviting her to write a blog post for our home page, so stay tuned to find out what she has to say.
The five runners-up, commended for their great contributions to the site are:
- Fertilizer Groundwater Pollution by Alex Roocroft, Imperial College.
- The Resonant Column Method by Ngoc Nguyen Quang, UCL.
- Living Facade by Oliver Howell, University of Southampton.
- The Use of Stainless Steel in Civil Engineering by Xinlu Chen, Imperial College.
- Temporary Works by Nick Nardiello, Kingston University.
Congratulations to them all. Certificates of commendation will be in the post shortly.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition. Over the next few weeks we’ll add as many of your essays to the site as we can (after our editors have done a bit of polishing and checking).
So now you’ve got the hang of it, why not add more articles to the site? We’re a WIKI after all and we’d love to hear from you.
